SEARFE Chat Hypermail Instructions

SEARFE Chat | SEARFE Data | Important Notes

We have setup two areas where SEARFE team members can keep in touch with each other to report results, ask questions and suggest new investigations. The "SEARFE Data" area is where SEARFE teams upload and download SEARFE data sets. The "SEARFE Chat" area is where SEARFE teams keep in touch with each other, report and discuss results, ask questions and suggest new investigations.

SEARFE Data uses a web interface to upload and download data. Anyone is able to download data, but a username and password are required to upload data. Teachers involved in the SEARFE Project are given the username and password required to upload data. These can also be obtained from the SEARFE Coordinator.

SEARFE Chat uses a hypermail archive email system for viewing and posting messages. Again, anyone is able to view posted messages and their attachments but only registered subscibers are able to post messages to the list. SEARFE members can subscribe to the hypermail list by following the instructions below. Alternatively, you can browse all previous email on the hypermail pages without subscribing. You can list previous emails by subject or by chronological order. Once you have subscribed, you can post comments, questions and attachments, such as plots of your data, by sending email to atnf-searfe-chat@csiro.au.

Accessing atnf-searfe-chat

If you wish to subscribe to searfe-chat and searfe-data, you must first send an email to the SEARFE Coordinator. The email must state who you are and why you want to subscribe. This is necessary protection against antisocial email users.

You may view searfe-chat email without joining the group.

Once you have subscribed, you can send any comments or questions to the hypermail system by sending an email to atnf-searfe-chat@csiro.au. Note that you must send the email from the email address you subscribed with. If you want to send email from a second address, you need to register that one with us as well.

Email you send to SEARFE Chat will appear on the internet at the URL http://www.searfe.atnf.csiro.au/_Mail_Archives/searfe-chat/ (note the underscores - no spaces). Other SEARFE members will be able to respond to your email. The SEARFE scientists and engineers will be notified of questions or comments have been directed to them, and will respond if they can.

Important Notes

Only Registered Users Can Send Mail

You must subscribe to the hypermail system before you can post emails to the chat address. If you have two email addresses (say a school email address and a Hotmail address) then you will need to request registration for both addresses if you want to send emails to hypermail from both.

Viruses

While we take care to avoid viruses getting onto our system it is necessary for you to have your own virus-protection software to protect your machines against viruses that may be introduced by files. CSIRO is not responsible for any viruses introduced into your machines by your accessing files on the hypermail system.

Message Content

The CSIRO reserves the right to delete any messages deemed to contain content inappropriate for this website. This may include, but is not restricted to, messages containing material that is deemed to be of a sexually explicit nature, defamatory, discriminatory or otherwise offensive.
